Chengamanad Mahadeva Temple

The Chengamand Mahadeva Temple is one of the main Shiva Temple in Ernakulam District, Kerala State. The main shrine is facing to East with the idol of Lord Shiva in the form of 'Kiratha Murthi".

Description :

The "Chengamanad Mahadeva Temple" is one of the grand temple of Lord Siva, having the largest Sreekovil, almost same size as that of Vaikkom Mahadevar Temple. As the legend says the temple was founded by Shri.Jangama Muni, who came to this place for meditation. This temple originally belongs to 10 brahmin families. The administration has been conducted by the ‘Urayma Devaswam Board’ .

The temple is housed in an area of 3 acres of land. The unique aspects of the temple is the vast Sreekovil of about 5500 sq.feet and the architectural coverage of Nalambalam and Chuttambalam.

DEITIED INSIDE THE SREEKOVIL:

The Sreekovil is oval in shape, covered with a copper plated roof and a golden kalasam at its top. The main Shrine is Lord Shiva, facing to east. The idol of Nandhikesan is placed in front of main shrine of Lord Shiva. The Shrine of Sree Parvathy is facing to west and the shrine of Lord Ganesha is facing to south.

DEITIED INSIDE NALAMBALAM :

The shrine of Saptha Mathurkal is facing to north. They are Veerabadhran, Brahmi, Maheswari, Kaumari, Varahi, Indrani, Chamundi and Lord Ganapathy.

DEITIED OUTSIDE NALAMBALAM :

Apart from the above, there is a temple on the south-west side for Lord Ayyappa, facing its shrine to east. There is a temple for Lord Vishnu on the north- west side, facing its shrine to east. There is a temple for Bhadrakali on the east side facing its shrine to east. On the south-east side under the Banyan tree, there is an open shrine for Nagayakshi and Nagaraja.
